Rather than try to convince you with bad marketing on whether you should choose a China offshoring company vs. India offshoring company, I will provide you with some search terms and ask that you do your own research. These searches will arm you with the "real" story.

  • "offshoring why China vs. India" - I have seen articles swing both ways. At this point, I think the best thing is to pick a company you are comfortable with and one that you trust.
  • "IQ and Wealth of Nations" - I thought this was quite interesting, we did notice a statistic on rate of PhD's in china is much larger than India as well somewhere on the web. I have no way of validating that statistic though. Also, bumped into the table of IQ's, so you can compare India to China.

    • Lastly, I ran into one site which had a Chinese developer(biased naturally) complaining that India developers just throw code together and don't design the system. I have seen the same here in China, so I think the most important thing is that you pick someone you are comfortable with.

    Piracy

    Unfortunately, piracy in India is just as common as it is in China(and vice versa). You can buy Windows XP on the streets of India or China. Both countries have significantly reduced the number of locations over the years as both of them have been cracking down on illegal software. The most important thing in your protecting against your IP is hiring a liable US company that can ensure your rights are protected and kept safe.

    Q: How should you pick an Indian or Chinese provider?

    A: You should meet with them and also if possible visit their facilities. Many will claim to have security measures in place without having any. Verify security for yourself or have it shown to you. Also, once you pick a provider, it is good to start with a small test run and see how it goes and grow into the relationship. This of course is true with any outsourcing venture.
